Description
An elegant set of four silver candlesticks by Johannes van der Toorn I, The Hague. Each piece stands on a circular base with gadrooned decoration rising into a fluted stem of tapering form, crowned by a vase-shaped sconce with matching fluting.
Johannes van der Toorn I, active in The Hague between 1779 and 1827, was one of the foremost silversmiths of his generation. His work is distinguished by purity of form and superior execution.
