This extraordinary lacquered commode comes from a Parisian pied-à-terre curated by Hubert de Givenchy (1927-2018). This pied-à-terre is rumored to be from Philippe Venet, the longtime partner of Hubert de Givenchy. The dream of this apartment, located on the Esplanade des Invalides, was of a Parisian pied-à-terre, and of a Parisian life adding an extra dimension to an already full and rich life.

‘Toujours les projets’ as Hubert always said, so together with his great friend he started this project with his usual energy and enthusiasm, with his impeccable eye for detail and his innate sense of harmony. What they created together in this beautiful pied-à-terre with their timeless balance between modern and old is the perfect expression of their legendary taste and a carefully curated collection of high quality of which this commode was part and had an important place in their Parisian dream pied-à-terre.

Hubert Givenchy (1927-2018) was a French aristocrat and fashion designer who founded the luxury fashion and perfume house of Givenchy in 1952. He is famous for having designed much of the personal and professional wardrobe of Audrey Hepburn. But Givenchy considered fashion just one of two careers, the other being “art lover”. His interiors represented the ultimate expression of grand French taste and style. Givenchy was the most important furniture collector in Paris and he was all about harmony and elegance à la française”. His partner Philippe Venet (1929 – 2021) was a fashion designer and interior lover as well.
