“Having elder beauty take its place, enchanting modern space”

This elegant Louis XVI cabinet, to be dated around 1790, is a fine example of late eighteenth-century Dutch furniture. Constructed in solid oak and veneered with richly figured mahogany, the cabinet reflects the restrained sophistication and symmetry that characterize the Louis XVI period.

Large cabinets such as this example were among the most prestigious pieces of furniture in affluent households. They served not only as storage furniture but also as symbols of wealth, cultural refinement, and social standing. Mahogany-veneered cabinets were particularly sought after due to the rarity and expense of the timber.

“Having elder beauty take its place, enchanting modern space”

This Dutch Louis Seize commode with Japanese lacquer panels is not just a piece of furniture but a testament of beauty that continues to evolve across centuries.

Created around 1790, this Louis Seize commode is a refined example of late 18th-century craftsmanship, embodying both the elegance of European neoclassicism and the allure of exotic influences.

"Paris is always a good idea" -Audrey Hepburn-

New in the Collection is this atmospheric Paris street scene,
"La Porte Saint-Denis" by the famous Édouard Cortès (1882 – 1969).
.
This painting exemplifies Édouard Cortès’ gift for capturing the poetry of everyday urban life in Paris, the City of Light. Cortès depicts the monumental Porte Saint-Denis rising at the busy boulevard, its stone façade softened by a misty evening light. The wet pavement reflects shopfronts, carriage lamps and illuminated advertising kiosks, so that the entire surface of the street seems to shimmer with movement and color.

Figures stroll, converse and hurry past in small groups, while elegant horse‑drawn omnibuses advance toward the viewer, anchoring the composition in the rhythm of modern city life.
